CLOCK CLASS KIT · A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Teaching guide: clock practice and printing

Start small. Make the hand movements visible. Then connect clocks to the time between events.

Teach the hour hand's journey

The hour hand does not jump between numbers. At 11:55 it is almost at 12; at 12:00 it points at 12; at 12:05 it is just past 12. At 2:30 it is halfway between 2 and 3. Ask learners to explain both hand positions.

Read the time of day

A clock face repeats every twelve hours. It cannot distinguish morning and evening. Read/draw/match activities omit am/pm. Elapsed-time questions use am/pm and Day 1/Day 2. Midnight is 12 am; noon is 12 pm. A later day label matters even when its clock time looks earlier.

Make elapsed time visible

From 11:55 am (Day 1) to 12:05 pm (Day 1) is 10 minutes: a 5-minute jump to noon, then 5 more. From 11:55 pm (Day 1) to 12:05 am (Day 2) is also 10 minutes. Open number-line guide marks have no fixed minute value.

Work backward from the end for a missing start, or forward from the start for a missing end. The key states the missing value and the full start/end/duration relationship.

A reliable print routine

  1. Choose A4 or Letter and preview each page.
  2. Download student and teacher PDFs separately.
  3. Select matching paper, portrait, and actual size (100%) in your PDF viewer. The file includes margins.
  4. For browser printing, disable browser headers/footers. Print worksheet always sends student pages.
  5. Print one test copy before a classroom set. Physical printers have different non-printing margins.

Repeat a lesson

Save the tool, seed, time step, count, paper size, and number-line setting. Use a seed like WEEK3-A, never a learner's name. Version 1 generation is deterministic. Paper changes layout; seed and time step determine the question pool.

Scope

The kit covers clock reading, drawing, matching, time-interval arithmetic, and open-ended practice. It does not collect responses, assess progress, or provide a complete curriculum. Read the sources and scope notes.
